There is no doubt that engineering has been a strong force that pushes progress of development of human beings forward in history. However, formidable challenges are waiting for the engineers ahead such as sustainable development, health care, vulnerability and people’s entertainment (Introduction to the Grand Challenges for Engineering). In my opinion, a major challenge which is in store for engineers is how to ensure that everyone can benefit from these technological developments.
With the development of science and technology, engineers will be able to find solutions to these touch challenges. In addition, working together with scientists, engineers will make further more new inventions which will drive the civilization and bring us more convenience. However, how can engineers guarantee the even distribution of benefits from new technologies?
Science and technology is aimed to create a better future for the whole society and serve the masses. The ultimate target should focus on the whole of human beings instead of the minority which is richer and more powerful. For example, engineers have developed a new kind of medicine which is curative for AIDS. However, only a few groups of people can afford it, while most AIDS patients have no access to it. Therefore, engineering somehow is useless, if not popularized, as it brings few benefits to the majority. Therefore, engineers should pay great attention to how to popularize their newly developed technology to the masses.
As it is discussed in Introduction to the Grand Challenges for Engineering, engineers must keep harmony with the society and make the benefits of the whole humankind as their objects. Not only Achievements of more technology developments but also popularization of these developments will be the most essential challenges for engineering.

Hello, I'm Chun Kit. You made a very good point that the products of engineers not able to reach the masses. This is very true and is happening around us. I feel that politicians and the global economy played a major part in this problem, and engineers might not be able to do much about this. But this is just my view for your reference. By the way, I spotted some what I think are errors. 4th sentence: 'those touch challenges', should be 'tough', right? 13rd sentence, last word: 'objects'. I suggest 'objectives'. Should not have any major problems... I think. Pardon me for this long comment.
It is a rather good essay with relevent examples. However, small grammatical errors like the word 'objects' and 'Achievements' should be avoided. The first alphabent of achievement should be in lower case. Also i feel that you can't say engineering is useless just because of its inablity to cater to the masses. Certainly, there are some forms of marginal improvements brought about by technology to those poor nations.
